Glynn Rowlands

Musical Director of Adult Guitar Groups, Ukulele Classes, Guitar Club, Rock & Pop School

I enjoy teaching music classes at Abingdon Music Centre. The classes are fun and supportive and focused towards improving both as an instrumentalist but also as  an overall musician. As well as playing music we enjoy talking about music, equipment and artists and often have interesting discussions.
I enjoy playing and teaching a wide range of musical styles including rock, pop classical and jazz.

Recent repertoire and skills:

BEGINNERS:

  • This group has so far covered basic open chords, reading chord boxes and reading tablature as well as learning to play a wide range a basic songs using the Justin Guitar books. Also we are covering the travis picking technique and playing music from the Trinity Rock and Pop initial grade syllabus with backing tracks.

INTERMEDIATE:

  • We are starting to play at Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 3 level this term. Playing at this level involves learning to play transcribed guitar solos for the first time. We have started playing Sunshine of Your Love by Cream, Rolling in the Deep by Adele and Blackbird by The Beatles.

ADVANCED:

  • All members of the group are now working towards Trinity rock and pop guitar Grade 3 this term (not all will actually take the exam). We have been revisiting the travis picking technique this term as well as playing Walk of Life by Dire Straits, Rolling in the Deep by Adele and Sunshine of your Love by Cream.
