Welcome to the homepage of Abingdon Music Centre. Abingdon Music Centre was established 40 years ago to give the people of Abingdon opportunities to make music, whatever their age or experience. At present we run a range of music groups for babies and pre-schoolers, school-age children and adults as well as outreach work in the town. We also host activities on behalf of other groups. We are a small but growing charity and we are always interested to gather views and ideas from people who would like to make music.

Please follow the links below to find out more about the wide range of musical groups and classes we offer for all ages, including term times and fees:

Update on groups/events due to Covid-19 situation

Update: Monday 16th March and 23rd March

Our drop-in Mini Music Maker sessions at Christchurch (Baby & Pre-school) will take place as usual on Tuesday 17th March but then be suspended for the rest of this term.

In light of the most recent government advice on Covid-19, we sadly need to suspend all other Abingdon Music Centre group activities with immediate effect. (including 1:1 lessons and hosted groups).

We have been weighing up a range of factors over the past few weeks and had already reached the difficult decision that our duty of care to our members and to our teachers/accompanists was not compatible with carrying on beyond this week.  This has now been accelerated by the latest advice from the government.

  • There will be no rehearsals/classes for any of our groups for the rest of this term
  • Ladies' Choir performances at Station House are postponed
  • Our Community Orchestra/ ACCord concerts on Saturday 28th March are postponed
  • Our holiday workshops in the Community FREESpace (6th and 8th April) and Let's All Make Some Music family workshop (7th April) are cancelled.
  • Our regular members will be credited for the remaining 3 weeks of this term when we reopen.

Keeping in touch

We are keen to keep in touch with our members whilst we are closed, for example via group-specific Facebook groups, and also share musical resources to allow music-making to continue at home. We will be in contact with our members to share further details soon.

Stay well, keep in touch and hopefully everyone will be back together soon.

Previous updates:

Our weekly Singing for Pleasure group (Friday mornings) met for the final time this term on Friday 13th March. There will be no more sessions for this group until further notice.

Our Music Makers Together (intergenerational music sessions at Bridge House) have been suspended until further notice.

  • New Baby Mini Music Makers class on Wednesdays at 10.20 at the Abbey Baptist Church - this has been suspended due to the recent government advice on Covid-19. We hope to be able to restart soon.
  • Babies now go free until 4 months old!
